This includes plot, pacing, character development, structure, stakes, world building and the overall reader experience.Line and copy editing gets closer to the prose, looking at clarity, flow, sentence structure, repetition, consistency, grammar, punctuation and more while preserving your individual author voice.Proofreading is the final polish, designed to catch any remaining errors once your manuscript has been edited and is almost ready for publication.If you’re not sure which service is right for you, don’t worry! We will talk about your book when you enquire, and I can recommend the option I think will benefit you most.
I am a fiction editor and specialise in literary fiction, romance, fantasy, thriller and horror, but I read and edit all genres. I work on full length manuscripts for middle grade, young adult and new adult audiences.
Yes! I work with authors pursuing traditional publication as well as those preparing to self-publish.If you’re planning to query literary agents, I also offer editing for your synopsis and query letter.
No. In fact, I recommend enquiring in advance if you know you’d like to work with me, as my editing calendar can fill up ahead of time.Your manuscript will need to be complete by our agreed submission date, but you can enquire and reserve your editing slot while you’re still finishing or revising it. Many authors find it helpful to have a 'hand in' date to work towards.An estimated final word count is absolutely fine at the enquiry stage.
Yes. Your manuscript doesn't need to be perfect before it's dited, that's kind of the whole point. I would recommend completing at least one self-edit before investing in professional editing. You’ll get far more value from the process if you’ve already tackled the issues you can identify yourself.If you’re unsure whether your manuscript is ready for professional editing, get in touch and I can help you decide on the best next step.
Yes. A sample edit gives you an opportunity to see how I approach your writing before committing to a full manuscript edit. It also allows me to assess your manuscript and make sure the service you’ve selected is the right fit.I offer a free 500 word sample edit for full length manuscripts. Anything beyond that is charged at the standard per word fee.
Editing costs depend on the service you choose and the length of your manuscript.You can find my current rates on my Services page. For full-manuscript editing, I’ll provide you with a tailored quote based on your manuscript’s word count.There are no surprise fees, you’ll know exactly what your edit will cost before you book.
